Carnival of Video Game Bloggers, March 2013
Welcome to the March 2013 edition of the Carnival of Video Game Bloggers. Before we get to the carnival though, I need to discuss something important about the carnival. First, understand this really references only a couple people, as most people are looking to participate in the Carnival of Video Game Bloggers so we can all get more familiar with each other’s work. We have some people who drop in once or twice, and others who show up quite regularly, and I quite enjoy the variety of work I see. This isn’t directed at you awesome people.
Rather, there are some who have come back long after carnivals have been posted looking to have links removed, without specifying where they are in some cases. I’m announcing here that I will only continue honoring requests for link removal through the end of April 30th, 2013, only for specific links, and only if you can provide reasonable evidence that you are the person who should be requesting the removal of a link on behalf of a website. After that, if you submit it and I post it, it’s there, unless some issue necessitates it’s removal (for instance, I discover it’s actually spam).
Now, some people have claimed that Google’s algorithms are changing and Blog Carnivals may be harmful to rankings. I don’t think this is true, as I’ve not seen any fallout on my own site, but I have no way of knowing this for sure, as only the big G knows how they do their algorithms. In any case, I like what I’m doing, so I’m going to keep doing it.
I have also had people tell me they would use Google’s disavow tool if I left links up, and that this would adversely effect my site. As far as I can tell with the research I’ve done, this is not true. Since you all have your own pages, I just wanted to throw this out there in case you post links for other reasons, such as to provide context for criticism, and have this same threat leveled against you. I’m sure many of you know more about this than me anyway, but on the off chance this catches anyone by surprise if it comes up with you, I’d encourage you to at least do your own research before removing any links, unless that’s just the course you prefer because you’re an agreeable sort. In any case, with all of that out of the way, let’s get on to the good stuff.

Bradley Jones presents Defiance Game from SyFy Release Date Approaching posted at Gamocial | PC, Xbox sh, Playstation & Wii Gaming News. So what could be better than the so bad they’re good SyFy original movies and tv shows? A video game based on these very same tv shows! You can learn more from Bradley’s post here, and if licensed video game titles don’t make you cringe, maybe even give it a try to see if it turns out well.
Peter Spencer presents Simcity 5 Residential Density Part 2 posted at Simcity 5 Tips and Tricks. Within you will find tips for improving your urban sprawl in Simcity 5. Make your city the best it can be.
Princessofherworld presents Murder 101: What is a Murder Mystery Party Anyways? posted at Party Until You Drop Dead. An interesting introduction to the world of roleplaying games revolving around solving mysteries. Looks more active than your typical tabletop rpg, but much less active than those who take to the fields with foam weapons for larps.
Kenney Newville presents My Trophy-less Adventure In Monster Hunter Tri posted at this game blog. Kenney explores the joys of gaming without trophies or achievements through Monster Hunter 3 Tri. He picked an excellent game to do this with, I must say, and it’s nice to see people out there who really don’t worry so much about the little things games include that really don’t matter all that much compared to just sitting down and playing an awesome game.
Heather presents MMO Haven: How To (Casually) Raid in World of Warcraft posted at Backstab to the Face. Lots of good tips for raiding in WoW. I don’t think I share Heather’s definition of casual, but the advice definitely sounds solid and a good way to keep your group happy with you and each other if everyone sticks to it.
