Carnival of Video Game Bloggers, April 2013

Welcome to the April 2013 edition of Carnival of Video Game Bloggers.

privateislandparty presents Video Games You Can Never Play – Private Island Party Blog posted at Treat & Retreat. Privateislandparty gives us this piece featuring ten games that were never released. If you like seeing the games you wish you could have played (and some that should never see the light of day), you’ll want to head on over and give this one a look. Also, we need more parkour in video games. There, I said it.

sigh presents GAME OVER For Console Games? posted at Behind the Scenes of Lucky Lady Games Studio. Sigh gives us a quick bit of a nostalgia trip through the history of gaming, and a few choice parts of other parts of culture. One cardinal sin though. No mention of Mario’s spiny blue competition Sonic during the bit on the 90’s. Because let’s be honest, through the 90’s, that war was the greatest in gaming history, and I’m sticking to that story. Not a lot of talk about the end of consoles though, so I’m not sure where the game over comes in. That said, I still think we’ll see consoles sticking around for quite awhile yet.

sigh presents Super Mario Birthday Party! posted at Behind the Scenes of Lucky Lady Games Studio. Sigh then gives us this piece detailing the preparation and fun had at a Super Mario Bros. themed birthday party. Looks like a lot of work went into this, and I’m sure those involved had a blast.

The Dude presents The Problem with Rockstar Games posted at Glory to Gaming. The Dude details the issues he has with games made by Rockstar, even if he finds many enjoyable on the whole. Definitely a good read to get a bead on some of the bad qualities in games made by Rockstar, as well as some acknowledgement of what they do right. The most spot on thing in this piece: talk about the filler Rockstar uses to pad out many of their games. A common tactic, yes, but I’m thinking Rockstar may just be a bit guiltier than most developers that do big name releases.

That concludes this edition of the Carnival of Video Game Bloggers. Join us next month for more great gaming info. You can use the carnival submission form to submit posts for next month’s carnival. Be sure to check out some of the posts of other submitters and perhaps leave a friendly comment or two if you like their work.
