Carnival of Video Game Bloggers, February 2013

Welcome to the February 2013 edition of carnival of video game bloggers.

Dave Hunter presents Borderlands 2 Raised DLC Level Cap = Motivation Factor posted at Dave’s Point of View. Dave would like to see some additions beyond story to keep him coming back to Borderlands 2, preferably in the form of character growth. While many games fun enough to play on their own don’t strictly need this, I know it’s true even the best games can wear thin when it feels one or more forms of progress have halted.

Meg presents Spaceteam! posted at Simpson’s Paradox. If you ever wanted to pilot a spaceship of the future (one with wacky antics) with some friends, and you all have Apple devices with touchscreens, you may want to read more about Spaceteam. Otherwise, you may still want to read more about it, because it sounds hilariously awesome. Also sounds like a great fit for the Wii U with the touch controllers if the devs decide they want to expand.

Vanessa presents The Case For Unlimited Screen Time posted at Our Somewhat Life. In a nutshell: if your kids want to play video games, let them play. There’s good stuff there, just like in many other activities. For the longer version, click the link and go read it, it’s worth it.

Nicole R. presents Misconceptions About Livestreaming: Making Money posted at Mama Needs Mana. Spoiler alert: streaming is not easy money. If it were, I’d be doing it too! You should read Nicole’s piece on this for further insight though.

Nicole R. presents Could Raiding Ever Be Considered A Team Sport? posted at Mama Needs Mana. I think many of the points made in this piece are good, though I don’t think we should ever consider gaming a sport. Sports are a physical activity. Games are not. However, I would like to see gaming afforded a similar respect, I just think we’re barking up the wrong tree trying to compare it to sports.

Zack K. presents Top 5 Ways To Spot Shovelware posted at Nintendo Gamer Thoughts. Like shovelware? No? Then learn how to avoid it by reading Zack’s submission. Mostly common sense info gamers have picked up over time, it’s still worth a refresher course once in awhile.

Meg presents Two Steps Back | Simpson’s Paradox posted at Simpson’s Paradox. Meg provides her perspective on the kinds of weird things sometimes include in games, sometimes in bad taste. Specifically deals with Dead Island: Zombie Bait.

Meg presents Zenonia 5 Review: Love and Loathing in Las Zenonia | Hardcore Droid posted at Hardcore Droid. Now we’ll finish of the carnival with one last review. Sounds like the game might have what arpgs gamers on Droids want, with a couple unpleasant surprises.

That concludes this edition of the Carnival of Video Game Bloggers. Join us next month for more great gaming info. You can use the carnival submission form to submit posts for next month’s carnival. Be sure to check out some of the posts of other submitters and perhaps leave a friendly comment or two if you like their work.
